1. Learn to recognize your baby’s signals

Yes, you read that right. It’s important to master baby language. Babies give off different types of cries and signals that can help parents understand their needs. Think of the hunger signal. This is often recognized by sounds such as “Neh” and making smacking sounds. Fatigue can be indicated by “Ohw” and signs such as yawning and looking away. Other recognizable signals include “Eairh” for stomach ache and “Eh” for burping. It is important to listen carefully to early sounds and pay attention to body language to better understand your baby.

2. Schedule self-care moments

Baby first, everyone else second, and then… oh yeah, me. As a new parent, it can be easy to put yourself last, especially with the constant care of your baby. Yet, self-care is crucial for both your mental and physical health. By taking good care of yourself, you will be better able to care for your little one. Whether it’s a quick moment of relaxation, reading a book, or taking a warm bath. Self-care is essential to maintain your energy and patience.

3. Spend quality time with your partner

Stress can take a toll on your relationship. Prevent this by planning activities together. This will make parenting easier and strengthen your bond. It is important to continue investing in your relationship, even during these busy and challenging times.

Our suggestions: plan a date night at home with a romantic dinner or a movie, or take regular walks together to relax and talk. Try new hobbies, such as cooking or painting. Finally, communicate regularly about your experiences and share responsibilities to support each other.

4. Employ smart routines

Creating smart routines is essential because it provides structure and predictability in an often chaotic environment. By setting regular times for feeding, sleeping, and other activities, both parents and children know what to expect. This not only helps your child develop independently, but also helps keep their emotional state balanced.

5. Be flexible and adjust your expectations

No one is perfect, and fortunately, no one is! It is important to be realistic in your expectations. Parenting is a challenging and often unpredictable journey. All the more reason that it is normal not to be able to do everything perfectly. Accept that there will be days when things don’t go according to plan or when your baby might not sleep as well as he or she had hoped. By giving yourself the space to make mistakes and learn, you create a healthier and more positive environment for both you and your little one.
